Opinion: India needs a national standard for glass in schools
Children’s safety should not depend on which state a school is built in.

Glass in schools is governed by a patchwork of state rules and building bye-laws, many of which say nothing specific about where safety glass is required.
The result is classrooms with low-level annealed glass panes that would not be permitted in a shopping mall.
We protect shoppers better than we protect schoolchildren. That should embarrass all of us.
A national standard, aligned with the safety glazing provisions already in force for public buildings, would cost little and prevent avoidable injuries.
Pricing and outlook
Distributors expect prices to stay firm through the next quarter, with the largest movements in thicker clear and laminated products. Smaller processors are being advised to secure allocations early.
